From a single parcel planted in 2000 on blue marl soils, this Petit Sirah consistently punches above its varietal weight. Salty minerality, delicate tannins, and a profile that recalls Pinot Noir more than anything from the south...
Les Vignes des Enfants is always sourced exclusively from the parcel of the same name, seven small terraces at Valgrand, planted in 2000 with Petit Sirah, also known as Serinne. The soil is dominated by Marne Bleue, a blue marl that lends a pronounced salty minerality to the grapes. Combined with the naturally delicate tannins of Petit Sirah, the result consistently evokes Pinot Noir rather than the richer southern varieties.
This is no coincidence: Petit Sirah is believed by ampelographers to be an ancestral predecessor to both Pinot Noir and Syrah. In 2023, half the grapes were destemmed and macerated in the directly pressed juice of the other half for twenty days. After décuvage, the wine was returned to tank and fermented through winter. In spring 2024, it was transferred to demi-muids and aged for a further year before release.
