Tome after tome

Gaspard Brochet is continuing the tradition of a family that has been established for generations on the southern slopes of the Montagne de Reims. After studying photography and then instinctively returning to the vineyard, in 2017 he decided to produce his own vintages and fully embrace his vision. This transition reflects a desire to work as an artisan, paying extreme attention to every detail, from the decisions made in the vineyard to the final expression in the bottle. The family heritage informs his approach, but Gaspard follows his own path with a contemporary sensitivity to life, the right maturity and a precise understanding of the terroir.

The estate covers just over three hectares spread between Écueil, Villers aux Nœuds and Sacy, three villages where Pinot Noir reigns supreme, accompanied by Chardonnay and Meunier depending on the location. Some vines planted in the 1950s produce grapes with natural concentration and a unique balance. The soil is worked without herbicides, using gentle practices that encourage microbial life. Since 2022, Gaspard has been committed to a biodynamic approach across all his plots, which enhances the vitality of the vines and the resonance of the terroir. This quest for harmony between soil, plant and climate is at the heart of his project, as it guarantees ripe, dense and vibrant grapes, capable of producing wines that are both deep and finely crafted.

In the cellar, every step follows the same logic of finesse and transparency. Fermentation occurs naturally in barrels, sometimes new, to bring structure and body without masking the identity of the place. Working with gravity limits handling and preserves the purity of the juice, while ageing on lees is patiently prolonged to develop texture and complexity. The wines are mainly from a single village, a single grape variety and a single vintage, which reinforces their character and precision. Each cuvée thus tells the story of a place, a year, a particular energy, and all bear the clear and vibrant signature that makes Gaspard Brochet one of the most promising winemakers in the Montagne de Reims...

333

Gaspard Brochet likes to weave stories into his wines, and the 333 cuvée is undoubtedly the most personal. The number three is a recurring theme: three grape varieties, three villages, three vintages blended together, and each edition bears the drawing of someone important to him. He also draws inspiration from an old tale in which Dionysus created the vine from the bones of a lion, a magpie and a donkey, each evoking a mood: talkative, stubborn or courageous. This legend allows him to give a voice to the first vintages: La Pie in Chardonnay from Écueil, Le Lion in Pinot Noir from Villers aux Nœuds, and L'Âne in co-fermentation of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from two plots in the village.

Over time, other animals have joined the family, always linked to a personal story or a specific place. Le Renard pays tribute to his father with a wine from the oldest vines in Écueil, Les Croix de Bas. Le Mouton is a confidential rosé born from a Meunier planted in 1994 on La Montagne. Le Cochon comes from a Pinot Noir from Sacy in the Les Eaux Belles plot planted in 1988. Each of these figures tells a story of life and terroir, giving Gaspard Brochet's world a dimension that is joyful, symbolic and deeply attached to its roots...
