Bulles de Comptoir

Charles Dufour returned to the family estate in Landreville in 2006 after gaining experience in several vineyards abroad. This return quickly became a deep commitment and he took over his father's vineyards, leading the estate's conversion to organic farming. His personal project gradually took shape and laid the foundations for a vision centred on the authenticity and vitality of the wines.

The vineyard covers around six hectares spread around Landreville, Essoyes and Celles sur Ource. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and a little Pinot Blanc grow here on the clay-limestone soils typical of the Côte des Bar. The practices are simple and rigorous, with manual labour, indigenous yeasts, no enrichment and a constant quest for purity, with every decision aimed at preserving the identity of these southern Champagne hillsides.

In the cellar, the wines ferment in vats or old barrels and then rest for a long time on their lees without filtration or the addition of sulphur. The perpetual reserve that feeds Bulles de Comptoir gives depth and consistency to this emblematic cuvée. Other expressions are created under the Bistrotage label, sourced from his mother's vines and vinified with the same freedom. The result is a range of vibrant, straightforward and lively champagnes that reflect Charles Dufour's strong and elegant personality...

Ephemeral works

Since its inception, Bulles de Comptoir has been more than just a champagne; it is also a graphic and artistic project. For each new edition, Charles Dufour asks a different artist to create the image and label for the vintage, transforming each cuvée into a unique work of art. This approach reflects Dufour's free-spirited and non-conformist attitude, combining natural wine and visual expression.

Among these collaborations, the ‘Stillleben #8’ edition stands out because the label was designed by Zurich-based German artist Veronika ‘Vroni’ von Manz, whom Charles met at the Gamper Bar! This choice illustrates the international and contemporary dimension of the estate and shows that for Charles, champagne is also a bridge between terroir, wine and art.

Thus, the Bulles de Comptoir experience becomes more than just a tasting; each bottle tells a visual story, a seasonal and artistic identity, in addition to the aromatic profile and the winemaker's work. For the connoisseur, it is a pleasure renewed with each release, drinking a wine, but also discovering a new artistic signature... translating Charles' spirit through the label.
