Vieux Foug takes its name from the Gros Foug mountain chain that rises above Corentin Houillon's Chautagne vineyards, on a steep, south-west facing slope where molasse rock breaks the surface through shallow, quartz-rich soil. This is southern-facing vegetation on poor, dry ground, drenched in sunshine, and it produces one of the purest expressions of Chautagne terroir in Corentin's entire range.

The Gamay is vinified with half whole clusters and half destemmed fruit, macerating for twenty one days before spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts. The wine then ages in fibreglass tank until bottling, with no added sulphur and no filtration. It is a lighter, more direct approach than the barrel-driven whites of the domaine, letting the fruit and the terroir speak without interference.

The result is fruity, fine and remarkably long on the palate for such a light-framed wine, true to the site on the Gros Foug slope. Some vintages lean into a soft, smoky, almost enveloping texture with a supple and silky finish, all built around finesse rather than power. It is a wine best enjoyed on its own or alongside roast poultry, charcuterie, or a slow-cooked dish, letting its quiet, meditative character take centre stage.
