An Alsatian orange wine blending Gewurztraminer and Sylvaner, two grape varieties that are polar opposites yet strike a perfect balance here. A wine that walks a tightrope, original and addictive…
Sur un Trapèze is one of Lucas Rieffel’s most daring wines. The blend of Gewurztraminer and Sylvaner may seem surprising: the former is one of Alsace’s most aromatic and powerful grape varieties, whilst the latter is renowned for its subtlety and freshness. It is precisely this contrast that makes the wine so intriguing. Vinified as an orange wine with skin maceration to impart structure and texture, the wine benefits from the aromatic power of the Gewurztraminer whilst being tempered by the lightness of the Sylvaner.
The result is an Alsatian orange wine with notes of dried rose, apricot, ginger and orange peel, with a palate that is both full-bodied and fresh, slightly tannic and with lovely length. This is a wine for the curious, for those who love wines that surprise and make their mark without ostentation. Enjoy with spicy dishes, Asian cuisine, or simply in good company with charcuterie and mature cheeses.
A family estate in Mittelbergheim that reflects the quiet evolution of Alsace over the past decades, rooted in tradition yet steadily moving toward organic farming and low-intervention winemaking, the domaine now headed by Lucas Rieffel produces precise, terroir-driven wines shaped by both heritage and thoughtful change...
