Pretty Nuts is a rosé pétillant naturel from the Koppitsch estate's Fun Wines series, built entirely around the idea that wine can capture the spirit of a place rather than just its terroir. The label changes with the seasons, spring, summer, autumn and winter, each one showing the family's hometown of Neusiedl am See through a different lens, though the juice inside is always the same joyful blend.

The wine comes from a small half hectare plot at Neuberg, split evenly between Blaufränkisch and Syrah. Grapes are hand harvested and pressed as whole bunches straight into the family's screw press, with no additives and no temperature control at any stage. The juice ferments naturally in fiberglass tanks, and Alex and Maria bottle it by hand at exactly the right moment in fermentation, a genuinely tense family operation with everyone pitching in. The bottles then rest through winter until the first properly cold days, when they are moved outside to chill before being disgorged one by one, entirely by hand.

The result is a wine that changes slightly from vintage to vintage depending on the conditions of that particular bottling, but always lands somewhere fresh, punchy and a little unruly. Serve it well chilled, pour quickly if any wild foaming starts and keep the closure ready between glasses. It is a wine built for no particular season and no particular occasion, just good company and a willingness to embrace a bit of chaos.
