Rét belongs to the Koppitsch estate's Fun Wines, a series dedicated to place and character over pedigree. The name is Hungarian for grassland or meadow, a reference to land once used for grazing the village livestock before it became vineyard. Today it grows on the gravel plateau above Lake Neusiedl, on healthy but lean, alluvial soil left behind by the ancient Danube, already sitting just outside the lake's moderating haze, which pushes the grapes toward early physiological ripeness.

The blend is built around Rotburger, better known internationally as Zweigelt, with a smaller share of St Laurent, sourced from vines planted between 1988 and 2002 across 2.5 hectares. As with every Koppitsch cuvée, the grapes are processed entirely by hand, destemmed and left to ferment naturally on their skins for up to six days with no additives whatsoever. After pressing, the juice moves into stainless steel and large acacia vats, ageing on gross lees for seven months without fining or filtration, and the components are blended just before bottling.

The result is a light to medium-bodied red that leans into freshness and drinkability rather than weight, a world away from the heavier, more extracted reds Burgenland was known for a decade ago. It pairs naturally with grilled sausages, mushroom risotto or a simple cheese board, but it is just as happy on its own, served with a light chill, at a dinner with friends or curled up with a good film.
