Cumières 2022 shines with a light golden colour and delicate bubbles. The nose combines aromas of white fruits, ripe pear and apple, enhanced by citrus peel, fresh flowers and a chalky mineral note. On the palate, the attack is frank, the acidity lively and the texture straightforward, carried by a precise saline minerality. The fruit remains clean, the texture gains depth, and the finish elegantly lingers with citrus, wet stone and a subtle touch of yeast. A clear and authentic champagne, a faithful reflection of the Cumières terroir...
Cumières 2022 is a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier from Premier Cru plots in the village of Cumières, in the Marne Valley. The estate has been farmed organically since 1971. The vines, some of which are over 70 years old, are cultivated without chemical treatments, using ploughing, natural fertilisers and manual soil cultivation, which promotes biodiversity and the expression of the terroir.
After manual harvesting, the grapes are gently pressed using a traditional press. Fermentation takes place in neutral oak barrels, with indigenous yeasts, without chaptalisation, filtration or fining, and with very limited use of sulphur. Ageing on lees lasts around 18 months before disgorging as Brut Nature (0g/l). This minimalist style aims to restore the purity of the fruit and the chalky minerality of the Cumières soil.
The Cumières terroir, with its south/south-east facing slopes and clay-limestone soils with a chalky subsoil, gives the wine tension, elegance and a dry stone minerality. The age of the vines, the exposure and the organic cultivation contribute to the depth and aromatic finesse. The result is an authentic and precise terroir champagne, a beautiful expression of what the Marne Valley has to offer when worked with care.
