Riceys Rouge "En Barmont" opens with a clear ruby colour and a charming nose of wild strawberries, cherries and raspberries, with hints of undergrowth, violets and a touch of humus. The palate is refined and dynamic, with precise acidity and elegant, taut tannins. There is a fresh, fruity profile, supported by beautiful clay-limestone minerality and a discreet herbaceous note. The finish remains lively with earthy and spicy notes, marked by the freshness of red fruit and a liveliness typical of the En Barmont terroir. A delicate and lively red, full of character and balance...
This Coteaux Champenois is made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes grown in the En Barmont vineyard in Les Riceys. The soil here is typically clay-limestone, which brings tension and minerality to the cuvée. The grapes are harvested by hand and vinified as whole bunches with long maceration. Fermentation and ageing take place in barrels and vats, without fining or filtration, to preserve the expression of the fruit and the terroir. The wine is then aged on lees before bottling, without added dosage, in a natural and sincere style.
Les Riceys is one of the most unique terroirs in Champagne, at the crossroads of Burgundy and Aube. It is the only commune to have three AOCs, including the rare Rosé des Riceys appellation. This combination produces intense, lively and fragrant Pinot Noirs with a more Burgundian structure and a very distinctive identity, perfectly revealed in En Barmont.
Located in the terroir of Les Riceys, in the Aube region, Olivier Horiot is a winemaker who embodies a free and radical vision of the Champagne vineyards, combining respect for ancient soils, forgotten grape varieties and natural winemaking methods. His wines, Champagnes, Rosés des Riceys and Coteaux Champenois, reflect an often overlooked terroir with sincerity, depth and originality...
