Mont Jeunes Vignes 2023 greets the glass with lifted aromas of ripe lemon zest, a touch of grapefruit, and pear, underscored by a fresh floral hint and nervy mineral edge. Mont Jeunes Vignes is made from Chenin Blanc planted from 2017 to 2021 in the Mont sector of Faye-d’Anjou, on schist and spilite volcanic soils that lend striking minerality and drive to the wine. These younger parcels were separated from the usual Faia blend in 2023 to highlight their own expression, a slightly fresher, more linear style with energy and purity at its core.
Vinification is natural and minimal, hand harvesting, indigenous yeast fermentation, and extended ageing in small barrels and clay vessels before an extra period in tank to ensure stability and integration. The result is a Chenin Blanc that expresses the vitality and terroir of Mont with a clear, bright profile and promising ageing potential, showing that even vines in the early years can deliver complexity when carefully tended and patiently vinified.
Of Canadian and Japanese origins, it was a desire to discover the Loire and winegrowing beyond their borders that pushed Mai and Kenji to France in 2009, at Mark Angeli's.
