Most(r)o, a playful nod to both mosto (grape must) and mostro (monster) is Nadia Verrua's take on the pétillant naturel format, made from 100% Grignolino sourced from the family's vineyards in Scurzolengo, Asti. Grignolino is a notoriously difficult variety, thin-skinned yet structured, with naturally high acidity and a distinctly bitter, tannic finish that sets it apart from most other Piedmontese reds.
In this effervescent format, bottled before fermentation completes to capture its natural sparkle, those qualities translate into a wine that is crunchy, vivid and slightly rustic in the best sense, fresh strawberry and wild cherry on the nose, a juicy, fizzing palate, and a dry, pleasantly astringent close. Bottled at 12.5% ABV, it's best served lightly chilled and consumed young.
