Based on Mount Etna since the early 2000s, Frank Cornelissen has established himself as one of Sicily's most unique winemakers. With a radically artisanal approach, he works on high-altitude plots on the northern slopes of the volcano, where ash, basalt and mineral deposits create a unique environment. Old vines, minimal yields, patient observation of the vineyard and minimal intervention define his style, which is always focused on the purest possible expression of Nerello Mascalese.
In the cellar, Cornelissen seeks transparency and energy, favouring delicate vinification, gentle extraction and precise ageing that allows the depth of the terroir to emerge. His wines, taut and vibrant, oscillate between ethereal finesse and volcanic intensity, with an immediately recognisable signature. Of Belgian origin, Frank Cornelissen, passionate about wine and oenology, left his native country in the early 2000s to settle in Sicily, on the slopes of Mount Etna. He crafted a first vintage in 2001, in the village of Solichiata, magnifying the local grape varieties such as Nerello Mascalese, Capuccio or Grecanico, Francisi or Minnella Bianca and Nera, some varieties having almost disappeared from the local landscape... The vines are located between 600 and almost 1,000 meters above sea level, mostly ungrafted and treated as naturally as possible, as is the winemaking.
