PIERRE BEAUGER, AUVERGNE, FRANCE

 

How to introduce Pierre Beauger ?

Imagine a medieval village in Auvergne, Montaigut-le-Blanc south of Clermont-Ferrand in the Puy-de-Dôme department.

Perched on a hill, alleys that barely leave space to let through a car, a tiny one preferably ! 

 

His cellar is installed under the stone house which also serves as a holiday cottage. His vineyards are located on the hillsides of Champeix, the neighbouring village on ancient dry stone terraces. The work in the vineyard and cellar is as natural as possible in order to offer authentic regional wines. He continues to plant, to diversify the vegetation, to question himself.

Late harvests, often October, even November…good mature grapes with to make wines with a unique character.


ANDERS FREDERIK STEEN, VALVIGNÈRES, ARDÈCHE, FRANCE 

 

I make wine, grape wine and only wine from grapes.

That's how this former sommelier of Noma, co-owner and chef-sommelier at Relae and Manfreds  in Copenhagen presents himself. Since 2013 he cultivates vineyards and vinifies his wines in Ardèche in the village of Valvinières. The parcels belong to Gérald Oustric but he actively participates in the work in the vineyards. He vinifies outside, spontaneous fermentation, vinification and aging ends in old hogsheads, thunderbalts or open barrels. The result is a juicy nectar, surprising and unique. The approach is his own; carignan, cabernet sauvignon, grenache, syrah… direct crush or not, assembly or not ... .

 

The wines differ from year to year. Each vintage has a different name which never comes back, an ephemeron being the expression of a terroir by a vineyard at one specific time.

 

No need to say that this a living wine…

 


DOMAINE DE L'ÉGRAPPILLE, YAHOU FATAL, CATHERINE DUMORA & MANU DUVEAU, AUVERGNE, FRANCE 

 

In Auvergne, at Catherine and Manuel, they pick the grapes. An unusual way of doing things… I explain : to  harvest the bunches that remain after the grape harvests on abandoned vines. Very small quantities with a high sugar percentage ready to try out different experiments in Dame Jeanne wine pitchers…

 

ORMIALE, MÉRIGNAS, BORDEAUX, FRANCE

 

The new vintages of Fabrice Domercq and Jasper Morrison have arrived.

Same axis of evolution, the expression of a terroir and its grape varieties, the desire to make an elegant Bordeaux wine, pure and structured while searching a beautiful freshness and balance. The result : four new wines with a specific character.

GUT OGGAU, BURGENLAND, AUSTRIA  

 

Stéphanie and Eduard decided to offer only four vintages for their vintage year 2016. No Theodora, Atanasius, Timotheus... .

 

A very cold early spring and some thunderstorms during summer significantly reduced the harvest. The Weiss, Rot, Rosé therefore, are an assembly of different parcels and grape varieties offering a surprising complexity, a unique approach  “Gut Oggau”: this vintage is available in small quantities, 100% Roesler. 

 


LE COSTE, CLÉMENTINE BOUVERON & GIAN MARCO ANTONUZI 

GRADOLI, ITALY 

 

Azienda Agricola Le Coste is located in Gradoli, 150 kilometers north of Rome.

Everything started in 2004 with the acquisition of 3 hectares, named « Le Coste », a wild terrain, former wine and olive garden.

Today, Clémentine and Gian Marco cultivate 14 hectares with a respectful approach to nature.

 

The wines are ripened in thunderbalts, barrels or hogsheads and since a short time in amphoras in a natural cave under the wine cellar. Nine different vintages, from a cosy « Litrizzo » or « Ripazzo » to a vintage Le Coste or Coste Reserva…
